Well, since I can’t sleep, I’d like to play some poker, and no I don’t want to make bets with my cash, just want to amuse myself while I have insomnia. I downloaded a few games and they’re all texas hold ’em, went to a few sites and half of them are online casinos that want cash, any suggestions?

I suspect a local casino here in Europe is cheating. They have an automatic dealing machine for blackjack, and the cards the dealer gets are literally unbelievable.

Based on a five or six deck group of cards in a supposedly random dealing machine, what are the odds that the dealer will get:

    1) An ace as his first card three consecutive times

    2) An ace, ten, or face card 75% of his hands

    3) What are the odds a player will get, as his two first cards, a 15 or 16 (always a ten, or face card, coupled with a five or six) 20% of the hands?

I’m also curious about Texas Hold ‘Em poker. Although it is impossible for anyone to cheat, one guy got five flushes in nine hands! That means, each time he had two of the same suit as his own cards, and then three more of the same suit came up. The poker here uses just one deck, of course!
Please, I am only interested in real mathematics, not opinions about whether I have a selective memory about these occurences. I do not. In fact, I’ve taken friends along to catalog these events.

In the last couple months, even though I’ll only play Blackjack for a half hour or so, the dealer has gotten an ace as his first card three times in a row on four separate occasions. Coupled with this, it is typical for the dealer to get 75% of the first card aces, no matter the number of people playing.

every year my high school choir has a party at the end of the year with a surprise theme that the seniors don’t know about. we only have a few days to plan it and get it all together. This year our theme is las vegas/casino. i need ideas for games, decorations, costumes, ideas, ANYTHING! we also need an idea for something the seniors to sit under at their own personal table! last year they did a carnival theme and the seniors sat under a circus tent! WE HAVE TO BEAT THAT!:) thank you!!!!!

  • Miguel M says:

There is way more luck than skill involved in the game. Also, the rake, albeit much much lower than in B&M casinos, is still draining everyone at the table, and since you see far more hands online than in a casino, that adds up. I played all day yesterday at 1/2 NL Hold em and lost $1,800. I lost 5 $400 pots having all my money in with the best hand, and losing to a suckout by my opponent. Now, I may play again and luck will be on my side, but the point is, in the long term, the game is mostly luck, add in the rake, and nobody is a consistent winner.
What I also find annoying is that the majority of people you speak to say they are winning players, but you know they aren’t. It’s just not possible that casinos, being online or B&M, are making all this money and all the players are making money too. Just can’t be.

I have a good friend, we sometimes will travel to nearby casinos to play texas hold em poker games, he plays high stakes and I play low. My friend usually loses and driving back can be my ears worst nightmare, he blames his losses on everything else, bad beats, bad luck and other bad players on his table but the truth of the matter he is not a good poker player, he is easy to read especially when he throws tantrums at the table. I stopped traveling with him but now he calls to screw my ears. I told him to either stop playing or stop complaining and that makes him even madder.

My friend also blames other daily life mishaps on everyone else as well, we have been friends for years but I am very close to telling him to eat crap and die.

Why are some people like this, why don’t they realize that some things in life they are just not good at and take responsibility for their own actions? What is a good way to tell him off without bruising his HUGE ego?
Right now my stomache hurts from laughing, my same friend called and I told him that I posted a question about him and read it to him, he is really pissed off, denied everything and just hung up ( he called to tell me his bad beat stories about tonight) wtf, is there hope for him?

Granted these have been at local Casinos but the competition is always very good. This is a serious question so please treat it as such and give me some good suggestions. I barely make enough money to cover my bills but I know that I have the talent to win or place high enough in a big Vegas style tournament to earn some big money. Where could I possibly look for a sponsor to cover my buy-ins and split my winnings with me?

when playing Texas hold em’ both players are all-in after the flop. the next card is burnt and the card which should be the Turn card is face up in the deck. does this card stand or does it get discarded and the next card become the Turn? this actually happened in a game last week. one player argues that because the money is in and no more betting can take place the card should stand. please help.

I have been watching texas holdem poker for a while now on ESPN and have been playing it on computer for a while now. I want to get started because i want to see how it really feels like to play and maybe win some money. I am 20 right now so i know i cant go to Las Vegas and play for the big money. I have saved up quite a bit of money for the buy in. I want to join a tournament of a buy in of $500-2000 when i turn 21 and when i am off of school. Someone advised me to start low and play tournaments of $5-50 buy ins to get accustomed to the setting in casinos that allow you to play at 18 years of age or older. Any suggestions? Thanks

I want to play poker but not that type of poker that you bet money and do those straight flush stuff (whatever that means). Or texas hold ’em. None of them

I just wanna know the type of poker my friends play…they like put a seven hearts and someone plays a seven clubs or someone puts a seven hearts and someone else puts a 5 hearts.

I just wanna know those stuff like what you do when someone puts an an ace or a joker e.t.c

Please dont suggest a website, and if you do please dont say i google it coz i tried that and all of the websites talk about that other type of poker i was talking about.

I know that i am being very picky but thats why i am asking this question, coz no website really tell me those things

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello all!

I am going to Vegas in a few days, and I want to play a couple games of holdem while I’m there, but I have some questions first, and hopefully someone here can help me. I have been playing holdem for over a year, but I have only played with friends on “poker night”. I have never played in a casino atmosphere with a table full of strangers.

    1. What does “sit and go” mean? Does that mean “cash game”, where you get the exact amount of chips you buy in for, and you can quit whenever you want?

    2. About how long does a tournament game last?

    3. Is it better for a person like me to play in tournaments, or should I look for “cash games”? (or whatever they call them)

    4. When playing poker, you are playing against the other players ONLY right? There is no house advantage when playing poker at the casino, right?

    5. What is a good website to learn more about “position”, and if you are in a good or bad one?

Thanks in advance for you help!
Please don’t limit your answers to these questions. If you have any other useful tips, please share them with me.

What if you were 18, would that be alright? I mean, it’s not like you’re going to a casino or anything. I usually use quarters and other coins with my friends, but it’s really a hassle to use coins all the time… And no, I don’t gamble (at least not for real, but I LOVE playing Texas Hold ’em).

  • Erfan says:

Hi I used to play poker online and at the casino for a couple of years but I stopped last year, my sister who taught me how to play and I progressed later.. She has won thousands of dollars in tournaments, biggest win was $12,000 USD for 1st place. But she never says how much she lost..

My biggest win was 800$ and 100$ here and there, but last year I lost 2,000 in less than a month lol.

I was thinking maybe if I get a bit better and a bit lucky that I could return to poker, and just ask the poker gods for guidance.

But once I have finished university and start making my own animations and become an entrepreneur I will not play poker lol.

What are your thoughts on Texas Hold’em Poker??

I love to play the card game “Munchkin”. There’s a lot of cards in the deck and it’s somewhat tedious to have to shuffle after every game. A machine to do it for me would save a ton of time. Because there’s a lot of cards, I’d rather stick to something that handles more than 1-2 decks at a time (4-6 would work ok). I also don’t want anything cheap (A $20 card shuffler just doesn’t sound like it would be any good). Real world experiences are also more important to me than just a cut/paste from a website.

  • Brody S says:

i cant play texas holdem poker now, what will i do?

  • Gage says:

Because of the rake. In casinos, forget about it. I KNOW it is impossible. The minimum is 10% of the pot with a max of a $4 rake, but now, most casinos have a bad beat jackpot where you have to pay another $1 per pot. Obviously the bad beat jackpot is in the casinos favor or they simply wouldn’t offer it, and it’s not like I have a choice whether to participate or not. Mt Airy casino is PA which just opened up takes $5 plus $1 for BBJ. Are you kidding me???

“Imagine you have ten guys who play in a home game. No rake. No bad beat jackpot. Just a nice home game.

Every week these guys get together. They typically bring $100 each. Some win, some lose — and everyone has a good time. Their only expense is beer and food — and they typically spread that cost around from one person to the next each week.

This is a special week, however. They decide to go for some casino poker — just for a switch.

They go to the casino, arrive at 2PM on a Saturday afternoon. They decide to play for a full 10 hours.

Funny thing, though, is that when they arrive the floor person doesn’t spread them among the other players. The other games are full, so they ask these guys if they’d like their own table. They say sure. They each buy in for $150each.

The house rakes 10% with a maximum of $5 a pot plus a $1 bad beat jack pot deduction. At the end of ten hours of play, how much money do you think the house and the dealer have taken from their game?

The house expects to make $10 an hour per player with a $4 maximum and without tips. When you increase that to $6, with the bad beat, that’s a 50% increase — even without the tips. Let’s forget the tips — just to be conservative. So the house is taking $150 an hour from the table. In ten hours the house has taken every single penny of these guys money — $1,500!!!”

What a perfect example I found online. Same thing goes for online poker. Much less rake but so many more hands being played, evens out. Enough said.

We play no limit texas holdem as a group of friends a few times a month, about 8-10 around the table normally. Play is pretty lose, but most people seem to know what they are doing. I’m wondering if anybody has a proven system of play that consistent takes the money home? =) We normally play for $5 each a game, then have 1st/2nd/3rd prizes… it is like a “sit n go” type of game, everybody gets 800 worth of chips for the start of each game.

There are many potential winning hands in poker. When an A, 7 goes heads-up against a 10, 8 suited, what do you think are the chances of winning at the flop? We already know the A,7 has won the 2 Card Poker Game (best 2 cards win), what are the chances of winning during the flop. For example, 4-10 times the 10,8 will win at the flop. 3-10 times the turn. And 2-10 times the river.

Well to start I’m just an average guy 19 years old worked a job consistantly since 16 and at points had 3 jobs at once doing 80 hours a week. I am now at a steady job 40 hours a week every week with (ok) pay $12 an hour in michigan.. much better then the $7.40 minimum wage jobs but still I just don’t make enough to live comfortably like many others I’m sure. I pay my bills and when something goes wrong (car trouble etc.. forced to be in debt by needing a loan) I know the old fashion way is to go back to school get a degree and try for a better job that way.. but does anyone know if theres other ways to make money on the side? preferably legal lol. I’ve tried playing texas holdem poker $1 / $2 blinds which is ok but not 100% gaurenteed. Also tried buying/selling cars which kinda worked but ran into some lemons that costed more then they were worth.

I know theres lots of online things but are scams like those surveys and what not but I’m sure there has to be a way someone out there has figured out how to make extra money.. I’m willing to invest money as well up to a few thousand dollars but nothing crazy.. ideas???

  • Myles says:

My mom mom is losing her memory, lonely, slightly depressed and cannot walk well. (Pop pop passed away 7 years ago ; Sept 2nd 2006)

She called me crying TWICE this week upset, lonely & confused talking. Her stress & nervousness obviously increases her symptoms just like we all experience.

Instead of visiting and just sitting at her kitchen table, I would like to do some type of quality activity with her.

Whether it be taking her shopping, going to the farmers market to look at cool items, let her stay at my house for a night (with her dog since she would worry about her-obviously), or play some games of some sort (carnival type games, casino?).

I also was thinking of something to help with her memory. Maybe make a photo book with names under the pics? Make a memory game with photos of our family to match up? I even looked at brain games on Wii (physically interactive Nintendo game system) that we could play together (I have a bad memory as well) so this would benefit us both.

She does not want to go anywhere & cannot walk well either. I am sure she is too proud / embarrassed to use one of the mobile helper thingies.

I have been trying to sell some of her doll collection & other expensive items on eBay so she can enjoy the money for whatever she feels like, but I am realizing that I really do not know what she would enjoy spending it on now.

The casino is too far for me to drive to often or spontaneously & I also do not drive in Philly which might have a few more options of activities (& I want her to feel safe as well).

I as well as my other family members are very stressed. I visited her recently & she mentioned not eating all day. She went to make gravy & had to stop in the middle because she forgot what to do (I’m sure upsetting her even more) I do not cook myself, so I went to order her a bunch of different things she could choose from as I have more than a few times & she would not let me. She was getting so upset. I was so upset that I could not even look at the menu to do it quickly. I guess I have done it in the past without her knowing.

I am so nervous that I do not want her even using the stove. I am afraid of her hurting herself as well. A home is out of the question right now because she wants to be in her beautiful home with all her things where she is comfortable ~ understandably. I know someone should always be there with her, but we all have our own things going on of course. She is visited frequently, but I am afraid that something bad may happen that will force someone to stay with her.

I hide it well & brush of when she forgets things in the middle of her sentence. It is common sense to know that this IS her problem, so it is making HER more upset than it does us. Yes, it is frustrating & overwhelming, but we have to remember to not increase her stress by getting noticeably annoyed.

She more goes to say something in a certain way (how she wants to put things) & then that pausing is where she blanks, hence getting embarrassed & understandably depressed.

I have never dealt with this / like this where the responsibility, amount of worry & love is so close in relationship.

I added more worries than my original question. My main question is to ask you all what activities, places or ideas to do with her you have or have done yourself considering circumstances given.

    My sincere thank yous.

Pardon my quick message that is not properly / grammatically put together.

Is it illegal to own two Medical Equipment Companies? Where can i find laws against that?
What if there are shareholders in one company? And not the same shareholders in the other? Isnt that conflict of interest? Also before employment, employees were suppose to sign a contract stating that they would NOT be allowed to be employed at another DME company.

I overheard someone saying that they own several apartments in a building with other people who own apartments as well. And if a room cannot be rented out to a tenant for that month, everyone who owns an apartment will pay $50 or so to compensate. Knowing this, would I be a winning player on NJ’s open table low stakes Texas Holdem sites? Is the competition that much better? Probably over 20,000 hands under my belt.

1)So lets say in a game of texas holdem poker, X bets 100. Y only has 50 so he bets 50 (All in).

At the end Y wins. Does Y get all the cash in the pot? How much does each player get??

2)In another scenario, lets say A and B both have 1 pair in the end. A has JJ, and B has 88. Does A get all the money since it is a higher pair?

  • Shay H says:

When I am sitting at the tables, I get so tired of hearing players grunt and moan when someone isn’t playing the “correct” way. They think there is some mystic, voo-doo magic when it comes to the cards “running hot”. They become extremely upset when someone makes an incorrect (lower probability) play. They think this person is “messing up the table”. As if this person never sat down, everyone would be better off.

If you know anything about mathematics and probability, then you know these people are pontificating dults, who clearly do not understand slightly more than basic probability.

So, me sitting out a hand, surrendering a hand, standing with a hard 16 against a dealer 10, or hitting a 16 against a dealer 5 will affect the expected outcome of the rest of the players at the table? Do I “change” the cards for everyone else”? I am curious to hear the answers from other avid blackjack players.

Thanks for your time in reading, and if you so choose, responding to this question.

I have been playing Texas Holdem for 3 years now. I can not tell you enough how much I love playing the game online. I frequent Pokerstars for the most part. I would say that I am an intermediate player. Best results won a 2000 person tournament and won $1000 and finished 2nd in a 3000 person tournament for $1200. I have learned the power of position and identifying the “type” of player you are playing against. Two part question: What is the best online tool, can you buy, that gives advice and helps identify what type of player you are playing against? What poker system gives advance strategies and techniques? So much information that I find or buy is very basic. I need more knowledge!

    Hi guys,
I am wondering what do you guys think about Texas Holdem, Poker. I’ve been playing the game for quite a while, and have chalked up quite a bit of losses. At times I thought it is just a bad run, bad beat, bad bankroll management etc. But I have sort of given up the hopes of winning some tournaments someday.

  • Le Pwner says:

Ive googled things to show me how, but they dont actually tell me card value and alll that good stuff. There was a guy that had a Jack and a 7 who won the game, over a guy with a Jack and a King. None of this makes sense to me..anyone understand it?
So The cards on the table are basically part of everyones hand. So if theres a Q Q 7 8 J from the dealer..and i have a Q and a 5..i have a big chance of winning cuz of the 3 of a kind?
I think i get it now lol, thanks!!..plz reply to what i just posted :)

Right now, I play on Pokerstars using play money. I am a beginner – in fact, I’ve been playing full ring NL Texas Holdem for two days now.

Someday, I wish to play for real money and hopefully make a profit. But I’m definitely not good enough yet. I am also really horrible at math.

I live in the United States. I’m not sure if I can even play for real money online.

Also, can someone explain to me how much do chips cost? For example, when I enter a game, it asks me how much money I want to bring to the table (the buy in). Does 1 chip cost $1 for example? I’m confused.

  • Joe T says:

People keep saying that Poker involves a lot more skill than luck. All of it just looks like guessing. In the beginning all you get is 2 cards. You have no idea what anyone else has or what cards are about to come on the table and you have to make a decision by betting money or folding. Are you tryng to get pairs or high cards or what? What are you trying to get? When someone bets money why would they raise, If they lose they just lose more money and if they win they win the whole pot so whats the point of raising? Its like your just throwing money away. How do you know what to do, when the only piece on info you get is the 2 cards in your hand and the cards waiting to come on the table? You dont know what anyone else is doing or what cards they have or what cards are about to come up on the table. It all just looks like a guessing game?
and what does it mean to play “aggressive”? Does that mean they just throw away more money?

A.) have a Queen of hearts and a seven (diamond)
